Valentine’s Day just isn’t about chocolates. We happen to know someone who loves jelly beans, another person who loves cotton candy and another who loves popcorn. Well, we’ve got a fun way to serve up that last item…add some color, perfect for your sweetheart!
How fun is this pink and red popcorn? It’s so easy to make, and takes no time at all. We served it up in our clear acetate boxes, or you could scoop it out of a bowl with one of our wooden cones. It’s just the thing for your child to bring to their classmates, or to leave some on a few desks at the office. Do you want to make some? Here’s how….
- Pop one bag of microwave popcorn (plain is best)
- In a sauce pan melt 1/2c. butter, 1/3c. brown sugar and 3tbsp of light corn syrup
- Once that is melted add on package of Jello, whichever color you like, stir until combined
- Pour mixture over popcorn and stir it up
- Finally, spread out onto a foil lined baking sheet that has been sprayed with non stick cooking spray (we figured that one out the hard way!), and bake in a 300F oven for 10 mins.
- Let cool and enjoy!
You can choose a color to suit your favorite sports team or holiday. How about red, white and blue for 4th of July, or green for St. Patrick’s Day.

We know you all love this one….so we are -posting one of our favorites!
We realize there are only so many bottles of wine and poinsettias that a host or hostess can receive at your next holiday get together. So how about next time, you think outside the box, or rather, in it! They say there are no guarantees in life, but we’re pretty sure that you have all the ingredients right in your own pantry. One of our favorite gifts to give is homemade cookie dough…we’ve probably told you this already. It’s so easy to whip up a quick batch of sugar cookie (or any flavor) dough and package it up in our large no soup for you containers. Double the batch, double the amount of gifts you’ll have on the ready! Hosting a cookie swap? This makes a great addition – cookies for when the others run out.
We just wrote the simple instruction for baking on one of our square kraft labels and tied it up with a pretty bow. When your host’s sweet tooth comes calling, this will be on the ready. And, we couldn’t let you leave without giving you one of our favorite sugar cookie recipes, thanks to Martha!
Sugar Cookies from The Martha Stewart Cookbook
2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 pound (1 stick) butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp. brandy
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Sift together the dry ingredients. In a n electric mixer, cream butter and sugar until light; add the egg, brandy, and vanilla and beat well. Add the dry ingredients a little at a time and mix until well blended. (note* at this point, we scoop the dough into small balls and place on a cookie sheet to freeze. Once they are frozen, we pack them up…if you want to do it the old fashioned way, keep reading!) Wrap and chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling.
Preheat the oven to 400F. On a lightly floured board, roll out one third of the dough at a time. Roll to about 1/8 inch thick and cut out with cookie cutters. Put the shapes on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 10 minutes. Do not allow to brown, cool on racks.

Yikes! Is it already Wednesday? We are scurrying around trying to get ready for Christmas…but we always have time for a quick post. And this one is perfect for those last minute gifts. Appropriately…it involves coffee, which you probably feel like you need a whole pot of by now! Have you picked up some of our coffee clutches? They are so much fun.
If you are giving out some coffee gift certificates this holiday (cause..who doesn’t love Starbucks!), why not gift them in our paper coffee cups with a personalized coffee clutch. Whew! That was a mouthful! You can stamp the recipient’s name, add some ribbon or why not have your child draw a picture on their teacher’s coffee clutch. There are so many possibilities, and we promise, they will be quick and easy!

Are you having guests over for a New Year’s Eve bash? Well instead of sending them home with something to eat…how about sending them home with something to nurse that hangover they might be feeling the next morning.
Your local drugstore or Target has a huge selection of travel size goodies that are just the right fit for our survival kit. We added some Advil, Tums, tissues and bottle of bloody mary mix to our small bio pack. We tied the whole thing up with twine and added a sticker. Your guest will definitely appreciate this gift in 2012!

Today’s post is super fun! Remember pixie sticks? Well, you can make your own, and it’s SUPER easy! And at holiday time they make the perfect stocking stuffer, party favor or present topper. Here’s how you do it. Mix one cup of sugar with one package of unsweetened drink mix (like Koo-Aid). Next, get a bunch of our paper straws, fold over one edge of the straw so the filling doesn’t come out. We made a funnel out of paper to fill our straws, but if you have one that is small enough that would work great. Finally, fold over the top edge of the straw. That’s it!
The best thing is that you can make all kinds of flavors! One cup of sugar will fill up lots of straws, but you can easily adjust the recipe to suit however many you want to make. And remember, this is a great idea for anytime of year, and really inexpensive. Could be fun for a birthday party, picnic or even a special treat any night of the week. What flavors will you be mixing up?

16 Days people….that’s right. Christmas is just around the corner! Now don’t forget the hardest working man this season…Santa! Trust us, he will love some Garnish’ed up cookies and milk at your house. Here’s a spread that we think he will enjoy.
We put some cookies in our flat treat bags. Be sure to leave more than one. You know, Santa has some elves helping out that are probably famished too! And don’t forget a little something for Rudolph, Blitzen, Comet and the others. Some reindeer food packaged up in our glassine bags is just the thing. We just printed off the bags on our printer, it was super easy! And we all know that Santa is uber busy on Christmas Eve, so put that milk or hot cocoa into one of our to go cups…I’m sure that sleigh has cup holders!
This made us think of when we were in grade school and living in Switzerland. We used to leave our shoes by the fireplace with carrots in them. When Santa came, he would take the carrots for his reindeer and leave us some candy in our shoes to thank us. What kind of traditions do you have at Christmas? We would love to hear some of them!

Today we are posting a great nugget from our Ideas page. Have you checked it out. If you can’t find the inspiration you are looking for on the blog, you can check out our Ideas for a few more. A unique favor to give out at a party is a CD of your favorite music. If you are having a Christmas party, why not send them home with a groovy mix of holiday tunes (we are SO loving She & Him‘s holiday album right now). Or, if you are throwing a New Year’s bash…what about some 70′s and 80′s tunes…everybody always knows the words!
You can package it all up in our iBop CD case. Don’t forget to include a list of the songs and artists, and if you’re super crafty, you can make up a fun label for the CD and cover. What are your favorite holiday songs…..do you go old school or like the reinvented classics?

It’s always fun to server a signature cocktail at your holiday party (or any party for that matter). Of course, you can always serve the usual wine and beer, but having a themed cocktail prevents you from having to mix up drinks all night! We used our mini plastic cups to serve up these libations….
To make everything a little bit more festive we rimmed our cups in some colored sugar and added one of our striped paper straws. This mini size would even been perfect for a glam jello shooter too. Everything is always so much more fun when you add a little Garnish! What’s your favorite holiday cocktail?

Have you heard of Elf On The Shelf? Do you do Elf On The Shelf with your children? We have been seeing so many fun ideas with this little elf all over the internet. So we were thrilled when Monica sent us her way to do Elf On The Shelf…
Monica used so many of our Garnish products….nut and party cups, paper straws, wooden cutlery, ripple cups and white cups. Here is what she had to say…
Just wanted to let you know I loved the items I purchased from you site. I have two young kids and we are starting a new North Pole breakfast tradition for the morning after we trim our tree. Also a day to introduce our Elf on the Shelf. It was a success and super cute thanks to your products. We had a small cocoa bar, gingerbread muffins, pancakes, and homemade marshmallows. The kids especially loved the ripple cups! My daughter had four cups of cocoa
Here are a couple of pictures of our table. Thanks again!
Monica
We are so happy that Garnish could play a part in a new tradition in your family. We have always said that Garnish is about creating moments….this is truly what we’re all about!
