Can you believe we are already in October?!  September just flew by and now Halloween is just around the corner.  This great idea from Dorangela, of Two Prince Bakery Theater, arrived in our inbox today.

How cute are these Halloween voodoo treats?  Well, they actually have nothing to do with voodoo, but we love the tags that Dorangela made for our burlap bags.  What a brilliant idea to add the felt hearts…so cute!  And if you’re not handy with the sewing needle, you can pick up embellishments like these from your craft store and use a glue gun.

Thank you for sharing Dorangela!

Saturday is the first day of Fall….what better way to celebrate than Garnish-ing some apples!  Apple picking has come early here in the Northeast part of the United States.  And while apple picking is a lot of fun (especially the apple cider donughts they serve at our local farm), you always are trying to figure out how to use all those apples.  So, we have an idea…

Mini apple pies!  And the best part, it doesn’t take a lot of work.  Our baking cups are just the right size for individual pies.  No need to stress out, just use some store bought pie crust.  We used Pillsbury, and were able to get four pies out of one package. We mixed our apples with a little bit of flour, cinnamon and brown sugar, and put them in the oven at 400F for about 40 minutes.  Voila!  Our baking cups would be perfect for all kinds of fall baking…apple crisp, pumpkin pie or even some individual au gratin potatoes.  We’re drooling just thinking about it….

We love a picnic!  And so many of Garnish products are just made for grabbing a bite outside.  From our gable boxes or bio packs, to our berry baskets or even an old fashioned paper bag….we’ve got you covered.  So we were thrilled when Monica showed us how she Garnished a birthday picnic and a desert picnic!

Monica cleverly used our food trays, small ripple cups, paper straws, small plastic bottles, glassine bags, berry baskets and some twine.  We love the way it all turned out, and her color scheme (she is a self proclaimed patriotic color lover)is perfect to inspire you for this Memorial Day weekend. You can check out Monica’s blog posts on Homespun Heart here and here.

Keep sending us your ideas, we can’t get enough :)

20 April 2012

This is our last in the series celebrating Cinco de Mayo.  Anyone else have a major craving for some tasty Mexican food?

Now we know that your party is going to be grooving, no one is going to be sitting still, so why not give everyone a handy container for their tortilla chips, churros or even some quesadillas? Our flat kraft treat bags are perfect for the portable party!  We just used some free clipart, and ran the bags through the printer.  It’s really easy.  And it’s always fun to use some fancy edged scissors from your craft bin, or just cut out a fun design along the edge of the bag.

Like we mentioned on Wednesday, what’s a fiesta without margaritas!  You can rim some of our mini plastic cups with salt…they will be perfect for sipping.  And don’t forget the kids…maybe use the mini plastic cups for some fun, non-alcoholic drinks.

Hope we gave you some fun ideas…will you be celebrating Cinco de Mayo, and can we come?

No Jimmy Buffet here…just some more great ideas for Cinco De Mayo.  Today we have margaritas on the brain.

Our plastic mini milk jug is just the thing for serving up these tasty libations.  Just set out a couple jugs of pre made drinks and everyone can serve themselves a glass.  Or if your fiesta is going to get really “loco”, they can just grab a jug and a straw, all for themselves!

Look what we found at the end of the rainbow….some luck o’ the Irish!

Our wooden paper cups are just the thing to make your own pot of gold.  Attach your “rainbow” using a hole punch.  Then fill it it up with whatever treasure you like.  Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

We are proud to announce the arrival of our newest Garnish…the burlap favor bag!  Isn’t it cute? From favors to jewelry the possibilities are endless.  Or what about making a lavender sachet to put in your drawer? You know we love a holiday here at Garnish, so we thought we would show off our new addition in a St. Patty’s Day theme.

We found some Irish breakfast tea, and thought this would be a fun gift to leave for your co-workers, teacher, mail carrier…just about anyone.  We added a four leaf clover, paper of course, but hopefully it will bring a little Irish luck!

23 January 2012

Valentine’s Day just isn’t about chocolates.  We happen to know someone who loves jelly beans, another person who loves cotton candy and another who loves popcorn.  Well, we’ve got a fun way to serve up that last item…add some color, perfect for your sweetheart!

How fun is this pink and red popcorn?  It’s so easy to make, and takes no time at all.  We served it up in our clear acetate boxes, or you could scoop it out of a bowl with one of our wooden cones.  It’s just the thing for your child to bring to their classmates, or to leave some on a few desks at the office.  Do you want to make some? Here’s how….

  1. Pop one bag of microwave popcorn (plain is best)
  2. In a sauce pan melt 1/2c. butter, 1/3c. brown sugar and 3tbsp of light corn syrup
  3. Once that is melted add on package of Jello, whichever color you like, stir until combined
  4. Pour mixture over popcorn and stir it up
  5. Finally, spread out onto a foil lined baking sheet that has been sprayed with non stick cooking spray (we figured that one out the hard way!), and bake in a 300F oven for 10 mins.
  6. Let cool and enjoy!

You can choose a color to suit your favorite sports team or holiday.  How about red, white and blue for 4th of July, or green for St. Patrick’s Day.

22 December 2011

We know you all love this one….so we are -posting one of our favorites!

We realize there are only so many bottles of wine and poinsettias that a host or hostess can receive at your next holiday get together.  So how about next time, you think outside the box, or rather, in it!  They say there are no guarantees in life, but we’re pretty sure that you have all the ingredients right in your own pantry.  One of our favorite gifts to give is homemade cookie dough…we’ve probably told you this already.  It’s so easy to whip up a quick batch of sugar cookie (or any flavor) dough and package it up in our large no soup for you containers. Double the batch, double the amount of gifts you’ll have on the ready! Hosting a cookie swap? This makes a great addition – cookies for when the others run out.

We just wrote the simple instruction for baking on one of our square kraft labels and tied it up with a pretty bow.  When your host’s sweet tooth comes calling, this will be on the ready. And, we couldn’t let you leave without giving you one of our favorite sugar cookie recipes, thanks to Martha!

Sugar Cookies from The Martha Stewart Cookbook

2 cups all purpose flour

1/4 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. baking powder

1/4 pound (1 stick) butter, softened

1 cup sugar

1 egg

2 tbsp. brandy

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Sift together the dry ingredients.  In a n electric mixer, cream butter and sugar until light; add the egg, brandy, and vanilla and beat well.  Add the dry ingredients a little at a time and mix until well blended. (note* at this point, we scoop the dough into small balls and place on a cookie sheet to freeze.  Once they are frozen, we pack them up…if you want to do it the old fashioned way, keep reading!) Wrap and chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling.

Preheat the oven to 400F.  On a lightly floured board, roll out one third of the dough at a time.  Roll to about 1/8 inch thick and cut out with cookie cutters.  Put the shapes on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 10 minutes.  Do not allow to brown, cool on racks.
