This is our final experiment with chalkboard paint, and we think it turned out great.  Here we used our to go cups and coffee clutches.

You could paint up a bunch of coffee cuffs and leave them in the cupboard.  When you want to leave a special message for someone, just slide one on.  And being able to put your name on one of our to go cups will never leave you guessing….which one is mine?  You could use some painters tape to create cool shapes for your chalkboard paint, but we choose to leave some rough edges to ours. Remember, this is only a sampling, you’re only limited by your imagination.  Chalkboard paint would work great on any of our paper products…the french fry scoop, our boxes and what about the berry baskets!  Have fun and create some moments!

Here is another quick and easy project to do with chalkboard paint.  How about painting the lids for our no soup for you containers?

Not only is this is a great idea for labeling food at the buffet, but our containers aren’t just for food. You could store craft supplies, office supplies, contain all those hair elastics and clips.  And with a label on top, you will always know what’s inside!

We are inspired by chalkboard paint this week…so we’re going to have some fun ideas to share with you.  Our first idea is super easy, and very quick to do.  What about adding some chalkboard paint to our wooden cutlery?

We painted two coats of chalkboard paint onto these forks.  Then all you need is a little imagination, and we know our Garnish customers have lots of that!  You could write some fun sayings or someone’s name.  And you don’t always have to go for black…chalkboard paint comes in all kinds of fun colors now.  We happened to use the Martha Stewart brand from Michael’s, but most any craft store carries chalkboard paint now.  Here is a tip, if you wet the chalk a bit, it makes it a little smoother to write on the paint.

Garnish is featured at this birthday party in our small ripple cups, cutlery and paper bags.  We are always inspired by our customers’ creativity with their Garnishes, and this cowboy party is no different.  They even made toy horses for everyone to take home…amazing!  Check out Kelly Allison Photography’s blog for all the details…thanks so much for sharing!

We have to admit, one of our weaknesses here at Garnish is cookbooks.  We have more cookbooks than we could ever make enough recipes from, but something about the beautiful pictures of delicious food sucks us in every time!  So yesterday, we finally decided to make a recipe from one of our latest finds, Super Natural Every Day by Heidi Swanson.  These little quinoa patties turned out so yummy, (not to mention we were quite proud of ourselves), that we decided to share the recipe here.

Quinoa is kind of like a super food.  It is a complete protein, so it contains all kinds of amino acids, it has tons of vitamins and is a really versatile grain to cook with.  You can make a big batch at the beginning of the week and keep it in the fridge or freeze it for future use.  And it you have some picky eaters in your house, this recipe just might win them over, and it’s healthy too! You can link to the recipe here.  A chef’s note, we added about 1/4c. of extra water to make everything stick together a little bit better.

We got 14 little patties from our batch, so we decided to share some with one of our friends.  Of course, our small bio pack is just the right size for these yummy snacks.  Tied up with some of our bakery twine, we just know that these will be a welcome treat!

Told you we were going to talk hearts this week!  Cookies are always a welcome treat, and when they look like hearts, they are perfect for Valentine’s Day!

We used our glassine bags and some twine to  package up theses yummies.  If you are going to bring a bunch into school or to work (won’t you be popular with a basket of these on your desk!), why not stack them up inside our rectangular berry box.  Heart cookies are definitely a sweet surprise!

30 January 2012

I have a feeling that this week is going to be “heart” themed, as we’re getting close to Valentine’s Day!  So here is our first post of “how to do a heart” for the special day.  This one is super fun, and best of all, super easy!  All you need is some construction paper (raid your child’s craft bin), some glue dots (or a glue stick, or tape if that’s all you have), a pair of scissors and some of our red stripe or polka dot straws.

Simply cut out a heart.  Do it the old fashioned way by folding the paper in half…that’s the easiest way.  Then put a glue dot on each corner of the heart, and simply slide in the straw.  That’s it!  You could add some stickers, or someone’s name.  These would be really cute to give out in your child’s class as part of their valentines.  Everyone will look adorable drinking their milk at lunchtime.

Stay tuned to see how we do a heart next time ♥
